Summary: Mairead wants to dance with somebody...somebody who loves her

Mairead rested her head on Michael’s shoulder as she swayed in time with the languorous music drifting from the bandstand. She could feel Michael’s back straighten and his muscles tense; she wished he would just relax and melt into her. But even as she tried melting into him, his iciness froze her solid.  

 

“You’re all I want for Christmas,” she considered whispering into Michael’s ear. She thought better of it, though, as she glanced over his shoulder and eyed the other dancers gliding across the floor of the hall. She hoped someone new would pick her for the next number.
