Summary: Karol feels his love for Alba deepening

Something had changed about the way he loved her: when he looked at her now, he saw her as she was, and he loved that version of her. But he had started to be able to see other versions of her: to imagine her in her youth, or at the end of a long life. He didn’t know these versions of her, couldn’t see them or hold them, but he felt that he loved them nonetheless.

 

“What are you staring at?” Alba asked, placing the last pin in her hair and turning from the little mirror on her desk.

 

“Just…you.”
